Teach me not to check in on my blog for a couple of days. I don't know what happened to my post-Hawaii entry but it's not showing up. And, since I really have no clue on what I posted, re-creating it might be difficult.
Suffice to say it was a heartbreaker. It was a heartbreaker for us fans but, I think, moreso for the Lady Aggies. Take a read of Jordan Bostic's diary entry at Bleed Crimson. I think that says it all.
As she said, we need to move on. And we're moving on as they take on Boise State tonight at 7pm at the Pan Am. As always, tailgating starts at 5pm. The game will be available on Aggie Vision. If you can't be there, check out the broadcast. They've done a great job.

It's here. The game we've all been waiting for.
#25 NMSU vs. #13 Hawaii
I'm not going to get into all the 'this is what we need to do' stuff. You need to just be there and witness the game. Period. End of story.
As I posted in my blog over at Bleed Crimson, here's what's going on:
1. The Volleyball Fan-Atics are having a HUGE tailgate which starts at 1pm. (I'll be there as soon as the Cubs finish their game vs. the Pirates today) 2 grills, plenty of food, games and fun. Bring a chair and join in.
2. Doors open at 6pm and the first 3,000 fans gets PomPoms.
3. Poster creation station will be available in the Pan Am and there might be one at the tailgate so bring your crayons.
4. NO GREEN ATTIRE ALLOWED!! Crimson out the Pan Am as we break the attendance record of 7,115.
If you can't get to the game, are out of town or are on of my Hawaii readers, head over to nmstatesports.com. Aggie Vision should be airing the video of the game. There is a graphic promoting live video so I'm going to take them at their word. Just click on the graphic or on Aggie Fans -> Live Audio/Video Events. You can head over before game time and make sure your browser/computer can handle things. I believe the charge is 9.99. The production has been really great so far this year.
I'm not sure who'll be running the Live Stats.
It's going to be an exciting night. Don't miss it!
Sideout Members - There will be a gathering after the game.

Upcoming Games:
Tomorrow night, 80's night at the Pan Am, will see the Aggies taking on Utah State at 7pm. As always, you are invited to join the Aggie Fan-Atics at our tailgate starting at 5pm. It doesn't look like there will be any radio/tv for this according to the Live Events page over at nmstatesports.com
Now, let's talk about Saturday. Yes, Saturday. It's kind of a big evening what with Hawai'i coming to town and all.
So - here's the run down. First of all, if you're out of town, you can click on the link above for audio only. There won't be any Aggie Vision either as football is playing Auburn and I guess they had to take the cameras with them. (Just kidding of course on taking the cameras.) The game will be available on the web only.
Now, about the game. Game time is 7pm but the major tailgate starts around 5pm - maybe earlier. Bring a chair, some munchies and your favorite beverages. There will be a poster creation station inside the Pan Am.
You can NOT miss this game. We need to break the attendance record from a couple of years ago. Right now, we're ranked 16th in the nation on attendance. We need to improve this!! Get out to the game!!!!
You'll kick yourself on Sunday morning if you don't go!!!

Great game by the Lady Aggies last night and wow, what a night for Krista Altermatt!!
Coach sounded pleased in the post game.
Next up is a big match. A huge match vs. Nevada. There's an intensive rivalry between us and Nevada. Sam over at Bleed Crimson reminded me in his Daily Aggie post today about the 2005 fiasco when the Wolfpack got OUR slot to the NCAA tournament. Since then...well, you get the idea. Do the clicky and read his post. Looks like the Wolfpack struggled against Louisiana Tech last night.
The Bulletin reported that the Nevada game would be on AM 570. It won't. We'll only have live stats for that. If there are any Nevada Aggies - please show up to the game!!
Speaking of showing up, check out the back page of the sports section in Bulletin for today. Time to Pack the Pan Am for the Hawaii game! Let's see if we can break the attendance record of 7,115 from a couple of years ago. I'll be on ya a lot about being there in the next week.
Final note: Interesting article in the Honolulu Advertiser

Game 1
NU 30
NMSU 17
I think the nerves got to them in the first game. They did have a few good plays, however.
Game 2
NU 30
NMSU 25
They really hung in there with NU and they gained a lot of respect from other fans out there. There were 12 ties during this match.
Game 3
NU 30
NMSU 22
Again, they really hung in there.
Outcome-Kim Oguh and Krystal Torres were named to the all tourny team. Lindsey came away with 17 kills, a hit percentage of .333 and scored the only ace from NMSU. Amber and Krista each had 8 kills.
From the post game, it sounded like Coach was proud of the team and how they did. Yes, there is a need for more work in blocking and serving, but over-all, he sounded happy with how things went.
I have to say I'm very proud of this team. They played very well, aside from some blocking and serve errors. I could tell their hearts were in it. What I would have given to be there!
Next up is UTEP at 7pm at the Pan Am. So get out there and cheer them on! Show the team that we're proud of them for how they played this weekend!!

I'm blogging bedside. I'm still feeling pretty bad but not as bad as I did on that plane. I don't know what I've got but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Anyhow.
Live stats are available via the Huskers website. Maria and Kyle are on the air - with, as they just said, the longest pre-game ever.
From what I'm hearing on the radio, I'm thinking that we need to re-think our pre-game entrance and player presentation. I'm also thinking that the Aggie Pride band should be showing up a little more at our games. I'd go for the jazz band or whatever they call them.

Nebraska just wasn't meant to be for me. I'm sitting in a hotel room in Albuquerque after getting pretty sick on the flight to Denver. Thankfully I have a way back to Las Cruces so I should be back there this afternoon. Having left all contact numbers on my desk back home, I'm hopeing that someone from the NMSU team will have a chance to see this post and know I'm not there.
So there ya have it. The things we do for our team! :)

So. Last night's game. In a word - wow.
It was incredibly electric in the Pan Am. The stats say there were 1941 people there but, at some point, Jack Nixon announced 2300 and change in attendance. We tailgaters - now humbly called the "Volleyball Fan-atics" thanks to our new banner, sat in our usual seats which just happened to be in front of the Lobo fans. That's the reason why I have no voice this morning. You can't help but get up and scream your head off - especially when you see Coach Jordan turning around and urging us to get out of our seats.
I knew, going into this game, that it wouldn't be like NMSU/UNM games of the past. Like I said in yesterday's post, UNM's new coach, Jeff Nelson, knows what he's doing. It showed in the Lobo's last night.
It was past intense. I turned to one of my friends last night after the first few points in the first game and said, "Wow. This is gonna be long night."
It was a battle that went to 3-1 and the Lady Aggies secured 1.5 points in the Rio Grande Rivalry Cup.
Lindsey Yon had 28 kills- which either broke or tied a school record held by Maria Roth.
Alyssa Gintant also stepped up with 13 kills and 47 assists.
Kim Oguh had 13 kills, Amber Simpson - named the MVP of the game - had 15 kills and had a hit percentage of .464. Krystal Torres had 20 digs.
It was a great night to be an Aggie fan!
More details can be found over at nmstatesports.com
Up next - off to the Midwest. I'm very excited to be able to go to this tournament. I'll be updating as I can.

Let the Rio Grande Rivalry Begin!
For those readers who don't know about this, it's a 'contest' of sorts between NMSU and UNM. Each athletic event has points each school can win. You can read more about it here.
Tonight's match up between NMSU and UNM is worth 1.5 points. (Should be worth more, but that's just me.)
So, what about tonight?
The Lady Lobos are off to a great start. They're currently 7-0 under new head coach Jeff Nelson. Last year, the Lobos went 10-20. How good is Coach Nelson? When he was at Texas Tech, he took that team to the NCAA tournament 5 times. Yeah. He's good.
What to look for tonight:
UNM's Jeanne Fairchild (#10/Jr/OH)is the kill leader for the team.
For NMSU: Coach Jordan has been going back and forth between the 5-1 and the 6-2 defense. You can get a better idea of the two by heading over to Wikipedia. Last year, he ran a 5-1.
This will be the first Aggie Vision event for volleyball.
Coming up - the team has no breaks at all. After tonight, they head off to Nebraska for the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln. Friday at 3:30pm, the team takes on Louisville (play by play on AM 570). Depending on the outcome of that game, they'll take on either Duke or Nebraska on Saturday. Again, play by play on AM 570, game time is TBA.

Congratulations to Coach Jordan on his 200th Win!!
HOUSTON-Junior Lindsey Yon led the New Mexico State volleyball team to victory once again as head coach Michael Jordan picked up win No. 200 with a 3-1 (30-20, 20-30, 30-21, 30-26) victory over the University of Houston at the Athletics/Alumni Center on Sunday, Sept. 2 in Houston, Texas.
Yon (San Antonio, Texas) had 17 kills and 11 digs to pick up a double-double and lead NMSU (5-1) to victory over the Cougars (1-3). Houston seemed like they were going to give the Aggies lots of trouble as they had nine service aces in the match.
“We took care of the ball a little better today, but there is always room to improve,” Jordan said. “The players executed well and that helped us get the win today.”
The NMSU volleyball team saw an error-free hitting game in the first game of the match and were led by Kim Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) and Yon, who had six kills each. Yon hit .857 while Oguh hit .600 in the game. Junior libero led the way defensively as she led NMSU with six digs in game one. The Aggies led by 11 points at one time and won the game 30-20.
“One of the big reasons we hit so well in the first game was because we didn’t have the big Texas block to deal with like we did yesterday,” Jordan said.
Freshman Whitney Phillips got her first start as an Aggie and came up with the first point of the match as she smoked a ball down the line for a kill. She finished the day with five kills, four digs and an ace.
A much different Aggie team showed up on the court in game two. The game was tied 3-3 before the Cougars scored six straight points to take a demanding 9-3 lead. Houston would never look back as they led by as many as 10 points and won game two 30-20. Amber Simpson tried to keep the Aggies in it with five kills and one block assist. Another big difference in the second game was the Aggies had four service errors as opposed to Houston’s two service errors.
NMSU revised their look using a 6-2 to open up some different options to pick up a game win in game three. Yon led once again with four kills, while Callis and Simpson had three kills each. The game was tied 16-16 when the Aggies went on a seven point rally that was started by a Houston service error to take a 23-16 lead. NMSU eventually won 30-21.
Game four saw Oguh lead the way with six kills and two block assists, while Yon along with Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.) had five kills each. Simpson finished the match with 16 kills and hit a team high .480 in four games.
The Aggies will take on I-25 rival New Mexico on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. with game time set for 7:00 p.m. (MDT). The match will be televised on local Comcast channels across the state of New Mexico and there will also be live stats and a recap of the game on the web at www.nmstatesports.com.

Post Game
Coach Jordan decided that they needed to switch things up a little bit so they went to the 6-2 which slowed Houston down a bit. It seems his 'talk' with the team last night had an effect with no attack errors in game 1. He felt the players got a little intimidated yesterday - Texas has an amazing block. Bryn stepped up quite well today as did the setters.

They said it was a tape delay however the broadcast came in on game 3. Tape delay, I thought, was they would start with game 1 on the broadcast. ??? I'm guessing there were problems as Jackie is on the air with her cell phone.
NOTE: Nope - tape delay on the radio, no tape delay on the Aggie Access broadcast.
Weird.

I don't normally number crunch but I have to.
Wow.
Team Totals -
31 Errors. Uhm. Huh? 31 Errors?
3 service aces but 9 service errors.
Attack Percentage was .010
2 Block errors.
2 BHE
Hit percentage -
Game 1 .088
Game 2 .175
Game 3 -.290
I have no explaination on what happened. Did the pressure of playing a team like Texas get the better of their mental game? I sometimes joke when my Cubs are playing horridly that they were kidnapped and replaced by pod people. Is that what happened here?
Hope they get it together for tomorrow's match...and for the rest of the week. We play UNM on Tuesday and, no as some folks have said, it won't be a complete walk. UNM is 6-0 so far and they're not playing cupcake teams.

Game Time in Texas!!
The Gametracker, courtesy of CSTV is not working on my end. Aggie Access isn't working either. Your best bet is to tune into the radio even tho the signal isn't the greatest.

I wonder if we'll hear from Coach.
And we did. Coach is, of course, very disappointed. "I guess we weren't able to deal with the brain pressure". The team handled the ball well and passed good but the unforced errors were ridiculous. He's very frustrated with the performance he just saw - no excuse for 31 attack errors and feels the team didn't go after the ball at all. It shouldn't have happened with our skill level. He did have compliments for Kelli Goodan. He felt she played with alot of emotion and probably shouldn't have pulled her off the floor.
I don't know what to say. That wasn't the team we're used to. So what happened? Did the pressure of playing Texas get to them? We know it was going to be a great match.
Jackie - Coach didn't candy coat anything. Too many unforced errors. Expected us to respond in a more competitive way.
Onto Houston:
What do the AGgies need to do vs. Houston? Increase competitiveness!!! Houston has a good OH (Farmer). Need to have a mindset change!

I thought we'd be much more competitive in this game. I have no idea what happened.
