I'd planned on doing an "End of The Year" type post last Saturday after the NMSU graduation - after Jordan Bostic walked the stage to get her degree. I figured it would be a perfect time to wrap things up.

The day got away from me and before I knew it, it was gametime - the NCAA Volleyball final. (Congratulations Pitt). When that ended, I headed back to the computer to write. That's when the tv announced the news - Robert Steinmetz had been killed in a plane crash. Robert, of course, being Alex Steinmetz' father.

The urge to write was gone.

I'll do a season wrap up soon but I wanted to say a few things about Rob.

I'm not really sure when this picture was taken...one of our numerous tailgates. Rob was a PROUD Aggie dad. He beamed when we talked about Alex and how well she was playing. He loved the fact that we'd applaud when she went into the game. (We do that for all the freshmen but it was extra special because Alex is a Las Cruces High grad).

We loved it when he, Brenda and Anna came to the tailgates. We had a lot of fun with Rob.

It's one of the situations that I've run into in the past. You meet someone who you think is really neat and want to talk to them more but time just doesn't allow it. Then they're gone. At Rob's memorial service yesterday, and at the reception, I learned a lot about him from his family and his friends. It seems like 'adventure' was his middle name. Or maybe it should be 'passion for life'. You get the idea. And I got the idea of how many lives he touched when I turned around to look at the crowd at the memorial. It was amazing and touching.

Alex and her sister Whitney talked about their dad during the memorial. I was doing fine up until that point. "Superman" they called him. Us girls usually feel that way about our dads.

My thoughts and prayers, as well as the thoughts and prayers of everyone from the Lady Aggie Tailgaters, Crimson Storm and Bleed Crimson, are with Alex, Whitney, Brenda, Anna and the rest of the Steinmetz family.
