Jordan Adds Lindsey Yon to 2007 Roster

LAS CRUCES, N.M.-New Mexico State volleyball head coach Mike Jordan has announced that sophomore Lindsey Yon is joining the Aggies this fall. The 6-0 outside hitter is transferring from Texas A&M.

Yon has two years of eligibility remaining and can play in August. The San Antonio, Texas native averaged 2.24 kills per game in 21 matches as a sophomore.

Jordan said he expects Yon to make an immediate contribution to the team at a position that Alice Borden and Tanya Allen vacated due to graduation.

“She is an exceptional athlete, obviously with high quality experience coming from a good program playing in the Big 12. Graduating two starting outside hitters, she fills a need for an experienced outside hitter.

“Lindsey is also extremely competitive and a good all-around player, she does a lot of things well. She hits the ball extremely hard.”

Yon said she decided to become an Aggie after talking with Jordan and junior middle hitter Kim Oguh.

“I’m really excited,” she said. “I didn’t even need to come here before committing. It wasn’t necessarily the facility or the wins or the ranking, something just clicked.

“I felt comfortable with the coach and staff and that was what I needed. I truly think coming here is a blessing.”

In 2005, Yon started 16 matches and the final 12 of the year while recording 141 kills for the Lone Star State Aggies as a freshman. She made an appearance in 25 matches with her first career start at No. 1 Nebraska. Yon tallied nine kills and eight digs versus the Cornhuskers. Her best performance of the season was against No. 10 Missouri when she provided 10 kills and had a .412 hitting percentage. She posted a pair of double-doubles with 11 kills and 12 digs versus No. 19 Texas and 14 digs and 13 kills along with a .550 hitting percentage against Oklahoma. Yon averaged 1.76 kills per game and she played in every Big 12 match.

Yon was a two-time TGCA 5A All-State and three-time first team 25-5A All-District selection at Reagan High School. In her senior campaign, Yon was named to the TGCA All-Start team, LoneStarVolleyball.com Dream Team, PrepVolleyball.com Senior Ace list and the NEISD All-Tournament team. In 2005, she qualified for the Junior Olympics and the team finished second in both the gold division of the Lone Star Tournament and Volleyfest.

Yon joins a squad that went 33-4 last season and earned its first at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies were also No. 23 in the final AVCA Top 25 Poll

I don't know anything about this player nor the one that transferred from Iowa St. (?) However, taking transfers who were not starters at schools that were probably not as good as the Aggies is not a good sign.

Iowa State and Texas A&M are both good volleyball programs from a great conference. It's possible both could have developed into great players at their schools. Yon was a starter as a freshman but had some problems with the death of her mother as a soph.

New roster is out. Besides the 06 seniors 5 other players left the team for various reasons. The one that really surprised me is Mary English whose name dosen't appear on the 07 roster. Ericson I knew about,Guerre was also a surprise for me.Dominquez and Holquin are the other two.
