Hi. My name is Melanie Brooks and I'm a NMSU Volleyball Addict.
It started quite simply enough in 2003. We moved back to Las Cruces from the east coast. A friend of ours said to 'just check out one game'. Now we are hopelessly addicted. Perhaps down the road, I'll come up with a "You Know You're Addicted to Aggie Volleyball When..." list.
In case you don't know about Aggie Volleyball - let me attempt to fill you in.
We have an amazing team, coached for 9 years by Michael Jordan. His record over the last four seasons speaks for itself as he's recorded a mark of 106-22 with two conference championships and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and 2004. (source: nmstatesports.com bio) He was also named Coach of the Year by the WAC last year.
The thing about this team is that you can tell a few things by just watching them interact with each other, and with the coaches. First of all, the amount of respect they have for the staff is amazing. I've watched opponents interact with their respective coaches. Some get angry, others roll their eyes and some even shout back at them. You'll never see that on our sidelines. What you'll see is Coach Jordan yelling a little bit one minute, then the next minute he'll have his arm around the shoulders of the player, encouraging her on.
Suffice to say - amazing group and its an honor to be able to watch them.
I'm not really sure where I'll be going with this blog but I've been wanting to write about Aggie Volleyball for awhile. I guess we'll see what happens!
